TRUMP: Punish the anarchist

| January 14, 2021 1:00 AM

Thank you for letters to the editor on Sunday that reassured me there are civilized folks in our small city and the greater republic. Censure and federal trial of Donald Trump is critical to discourage and recognize the high crimes he fomented on this country.

He defied his oath of office, the Constitution and the democracy he vowed to protect. As a disgraced president he should never have the ability to regain a political role, political leadership or the perks afforded a former president.

The taxpayers pay for his Secret Service protection, health care, staff and offices, allowances for travel and even funeral and burial expenses. We have paid approximately $142 million for the estimated 242 golf outings and counting, mostly money going to his own courses as he back charged for entourage lodging, food and cart rentals. He may or may not be a billionaire but our nation cannot afford to watch him Twitter as our “Rome” burns.

He needs to be charged, tried and shamed for the crimes we have watched him commit. The greatest rebuke we can activate is to shut him off in silence, remove all political signs, Trump or otherwise. We need to get back to trying to live amidst COVID and dangerous financial and social road hazards ahead. Trump lost, then burnt down the house, literally, end of story. There need to be real consequences for this anarchist.
