AIRPORT: Beware expansion efforts
I can’t help but get extremely concerned whenever Airport Manager Steve Kjergaard states that improvements to the airport are required by the FAA. To what end, I ask? Are his motives the same as our community?
As the Airport Manager, expansion of the Coeur d’Alene Airport including scheduled service improves his position but does it benefit our community? My experience from “the land that we don’t talk about anymore” is that when a regional airport expands to the point that there are scheduled commercial aircraft, it is not a benefit to us.
One can set their clocks to the noise from Mega Airlines 3:15 to Yuma that rattles houses day after day after day. The noise from a commercial jet is decibels greater than occasional private jets and smaller aircraft that our airport services now.
We are blessed with a wonderful commercial airport 45 minutes away in Spokane and do not need or want any expansion of the local airport that brings more noise to our community. It is up to the county commissioners to keep the needs and peace of our community in mind whenever considering airport expansion.
