PREP ROUNDUP: Post Falls boys get back on right track
• BOYS BASKETBALL
LEWISTON — Alex Horning and Caden McLean shined in the first half, and Cole Rutherford provided the finishing touch as the Post Falls Trojans beat the Lewiston Bengals 57-45 in Inland Empire League play Friday night.
Horning finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for Post Falls (6-3, 2-0 IEL). McLean hit all three of his 3-pointers in the first half, and scored 11 of his 17 points before intermission.
Rutherford scored five of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, twice splitting the Lewiston defense for driving layups to help seal the win.
“I was happy with our effort and our energy, the two things we were lacking in eastern Idaho and on Tuesday night,” said Post Falls coach Mike McLean, whose team went 1-3 in four games in eastern Idaho, then struggled to a two-point win over Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday. “The way we played tonight was the way we played the first three games of the season in Middleston (where the Trojans went 3-0) — hard, tough-nosed defense. Then we took a little break. This is more what we’re capable of.”
George Forsmann led Lewiston (6-3, 3-2) with 13 points.
Post Falls travels to Moscow on Tuesday.

Three local teams in top five after first day at Rollie Lane
NAMPA — Post Falls is third, Lakeland fourth, Coeur d’Alene fifth after the first day of the Rollie Lane Invitational at the Ford Sports Center.
Meridian leads with 135.5 points, with Kuna in second with 129. Post Falls has 93, Lakeland 91.5, Coeur d’Alene 89.
Lane Reardon (145 pounds), Ethan Miller (160), Isaiah Laguna (195) and Tyler Cook (220) each reached the semifinals for Post Falls, which has six others alive in the consolation bracket.
Drew Roberts (152), Gunner Giulio (170) and Jackson Kohal (285) each advanced to the semifinals for Coeur d’Alene, which has nine others alive in the consolation bracket.
“We wrestled a lot better tonight than we did yesterday,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat, whose squad lost duals to Kuna and Caldwell on Thursday. “Jackson Kohal wrestled really well. Jaxson Washington (220), even though he lost to the No. 1 seed, wrestled really well. We let one slip away at 145.”
Giulio pinned Shale Webb of Nampa in the quarterfinals. Last year, when Webb wrestled at Kelso (Wash.), Giulio pinned him in the semifinals at Tri-State.
Riley Siegford (145) and Sam Feusier (285) advanced to the semifinals from Lakeland, which has seven others still alive in the consolation bracket.
“In the semis we had some really close matches that could have gone either way, but overall I was really impressed with how they wrestled,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “Some of these teams from the east, they’ve had 25-30 matches already. And the rest of us have about four matches under our belts.”
Zach McDonald (98) and Matthew Whitcomb (182) reached the semifinals for Lake City, which brought a partial squad and has four others alive in consolations.
