HEALTH: Not political issue
Here’s a man, given a podium like no other, the whole world as an audience and in nearly every field he’s chosen to touch upon during his four years in office, he’s shown gross ineptitude.
To suggest that disinfectants could be used to innoculate the public against the COVID virus? Anyone else but Trump would have been promptly escorted to the state line and told not to come back.
But one important lesson from that particular bit of nonsense might be that, in public health policy, public health experts should lead the way and no one else. Certainly not politicians. But some politicians, no surprise, are slow learners and so we have it reported in The Press, Jan. 1, that certain North Idaho lawmakers plan, among other things, to render powerless our health districts by giving county commissioners veto power over them, over whatever mandates, etc., they may propose for the sake of our health. That’s their job.
Voila! Republican lawmakers and Republican commissioners. If from no one else, they can expect Donald J. Trump’s approval, a man soon to be removed from office and desperately lawyering up to stay out of jail.
In every way possible, let’s take care of ourselves, folks, and each other. Sometimes it’s a matter of who we vote into office.
