CIVILITY: Lincoln’s lasting lesson

The excellent article by Harvey Mackay in the Coeur d’Alene Press lauding Abraham Lincoln got me thinking. I have yet to see Nancy Pelosi or Donald Trump joke or smile.
It was no joke when Pelosi, sitting on her high pedestal for all to see, slowly shredded her copy of his speech. It was vulgar and stirred up a vile hate toward Trump that maximized even after he left office. And certainly, it was no joke that Trump pushed his followers — maybe yes, maybe no — into putting our elected officials into grave danger on Jan. 6 at our U.S. Capitol.
I hope in the next election there will be smiles and handshaking before and after debate by either side, Republican or Democrat.
