RATHDRUM — A man is being held on $75,000 bail after police said he attacked his wife.

The 23-year-old is charged with battery and attempted strangulation, both felonies.

Police responded Wednesday to a domestic disturbance report at a Rathdrum residence. The reporting party said they heard a woman scream, “You’re going to kill me.”

A woman who lived at the residence allegedly told police that an argument with her husband had escalated. She was throwing objects around the living room, she said, when her husband wrapped an arm around her neck and took her to the ground.

She said he grabbed her hair and hit her head into the floor, then got on top of her and choked her, according to court documents.

The woman reportedly told police she thought her husband was going to kill her.

She had redness and bruising on her neck, police said.

When questioned by police, the woman’s husband allegedly said he grabbed his wife’s neck “because he was scared of what she might do to him.” He had some bruising on his face, police said.

Police arrested him at the scene.

Judge Ross Pittman ordered Thursday that the man be held on $75,000 bail and issued a no contact order between the man and his wife.
