IMPEACHED: And farce failed

| February 19, 2021 1:00 AM

As if Uncle Joe isn’t doing enough damage to our country, the House and Senate decided to set a most dangerous precedent by attempting to impeach a private citizen, ex-president Donald Trump. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious.

The Constitution clearly states that impeachment, a last resort action to be taken to hold a president accountable for serious “high crimes and misdemeanors,” is meant to remove a president from office. Hello! Donald Trump left office on Jan. 20!

The Constitution also clearly states that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court IS TO PRESIDE OVER IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE. It doesn’t say he can think about it or delegate a senator to take his place.

I’m sure Chief Justice John Roberts, even on his worst day, knows what the Constitution says and in his knowledge of what an unconstitutional act the Democrats and six misguided Republicans are determined to subject the country to, declined to participate.

I believe Republicans should have sued and gone to the Supreme Court and made them rule on the constitutionality of this “kangaroo court.”

So, in the future, if there is ever another fair presidential election held in this country, and should there be a Republican elected, they should impeach Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, John Kerry, Eric Holder, John Brennan and what’s-her-name-Rice, for starters. Oh, how they hate Donald Trump!

As for the riot on Jan. 6, it’s the first time an “insurrection” was held without any firearms! And Trump called for “peaceful and patriotic” protest.
