LEVIES: Tax bills will change

| February 17, 2021 1:00 AM

As of Feb. 14, The Press has featured four prominent stories about the upcoming school levy election on March 9. Three stories correctly and narrowly state the levy will not affect our tax rate and the other says “sloppily” it will not change your tax bill.

First, it does not change the rate because levies and bonds are ADDED to your tax bill and not implemented by a rate increase. The statement about the levy will not change your tax bill is just FALSE.

Being tax season, I looked at my property tax bill and my property tax bill included additional fees for a School Bond, a School District Other, a School District Supp, and a fee for North Idaho College. Four separate fees added to my property tax for local schools. Those additions were over one third of my taxes. Check your property taxes.

Considering the school closures last year and the limits this year, why is more money needed? Just the teachers voting can win this election. There will be more newspaper articles about this election and I am sure we will be told how Idaho pays less per student than any other state, but our students test about the middle of the nation. This is no time to increase taxes.

VOTE.
