GROWTH: Unhappy with response
I appreciate Post Falls Mayor Jacobson responding to my email regarding growth and the lack of action to control it.
While I appreciate that he responded, I found the response itself lacking in answers or efforts at meaningful solutions.
According to city officials, restricting growth is in violation of Idaho law. What, specifically, prohibits the city from restricting growth within its borders? Particularly if such a measure was passed by the VOTERS, the very people paying for all city functions?
Which brings me to the second point with which I take exception. You point out the city of Post Falls has not taken a tax increase. TAKEN a tax increase. This re-enforces my point of a lack of representative governance.
From your point of view, my money is yours to take and we should be grateful you passed up an opportunity. Should I stop by the parole office and thank a parolee for not burglarizing my house? Nowhere in his response is there mention of how city government will do without ANYTHING.
It is my belief these people no longer care if they have the consent of the governed. They claim to be powerless to allow a vote on the makeup of our community but feel perfectly justified in raising taxes and we’ll enjoy it whether we like it or not. It isn’t the state legislators “missing the property tax bus” as Mr. Jacobson states in his recent opinion piece. Mr. Jacobson just wants to be the only one driving.
