LEVIES: Stop the support

| February 5, 2021 1:00 AM

On Jan. 20, I had discussions with Superintendent of the Post Falls schools Dena Naccarato. The first paragraph is about that discussion.

Presently, school bond and levy elections are held during the spring. You ask (logically) why would that be? Because spring elections are virtually unnoticed by the public, and school districts’ teachers now vote themselves endless yearly funds in the form of levies and bonds.

Potential solutions follow:

Idaho contends that we have the lowest paid public school teachers in America. Presently, bonds and levies are not considered in their salary figures. Today, teacher salaries are therefore vastly understated. Sen. Mary Souza has been asking for six years to coincide bond and levy elections with the General Elections. To date, no results.

This troubled scheme works very well for politicians, teachers, board members and superintendents, but NOT for kids and their futures. More funding must create better academically performing schools.

The following improvements are essential: No levy or bond approvals for our public schools. Demand outside yearly audits of public schools. Create four staff-accomplished, no-notice evaluations per year for each teacher. Install TV monitors in all classrooms to stop apparent and rampant teacher opinions in class.

Your children’s futures are at stake without such reforms.

The next Post Falls School Board meeting is at River City Middle School (1505 N. Fir) on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. and on every second Tuesday thereafter.
