PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lakeside wins inaugural Scenic Idaho Conference title

| February 3, 2021 1:16 AM

WALLACE — That first game between Wallace and Lakeside, a 53-47 win by the Knights at Ron Miller Court, you can call that a getting to know you phase.

Now, the Miners know, the Knights are the inaugural Scenic Idaho League champions.

Jolissa Holt scored 19 points for the Knights, who defeated the Miners 67-55 at Kirby Krulitz Court, clinching the first-year league’s championship and right to host the district championship game next Friday in Plummer.

“We were both just feeling each other out in that first game,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We didn’t play that well, but played a lot better today and did a good job. I don’t think we’ve played our best basketball yet, but it’s encouraging. It’s good for us.”

Ashlee Holt scored 14 points for Lakeside (10-7, 4-0 SIC), which hosts St. Maries to conclude the regular season on Thursday.

Jaden House scored 22 points for Wallace (5-8, 0-2), which hosts Genesis Prep on Thursday. The Miners still have another league game against the Jaguars that was postponed on Jan. 22 that has not been played.

“It was a hard fought game,” Wallace coach Nichole Farkas said. “Lakeside shot lights out and we had a few too many turnovers.”

Classical Christian

HAYDEN — The visitors from Classical Christian failed to show up for the game, so the Royals accepted the Mountain Christian League forfeit, and made the best of senior night by having the seniors play the non-seniors for a quarter to satisfy the assembled crowd at North Idaho Christian School.

“We had a ceremony before the game,” NICS coach Jerry Bittner said. “We got everybody in a circle, and I talked as long as I could.

“Brad (Alden, the athletic director) and talked about it — we might do it every year,” Bittner said.

North Idaho Christian (18-7, 10-0 MCL) returns to action Friday at the Mountain Christian League tournament at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls.
