GROWTH: Beware skewed surveys
I read with interest on the front page of the Local section regarding the “Health Corridor.”
Tucked almost at the end of the second page of the article on page C9 (Mr. or Ms.) Ali Marienau states that “10% of the survey thought growth should pay for itself.”
He or she also states “about 88% of people surveyed in the (Coeur d’Alene region and Post Falls) CHAMBERS supported additional funding for…”, and I do too. Where I take exception is taking his survey from the “chambers,” where you will get a skewed “88%.”
In my unofficial survey of homeowners, retired people and just plain old people, I came up with almost 100% who thought growth should pay for itself. I will admit I did not ask developers or potential move-ins. They have ulterior motives.
If each single-family building permit issued was assessed $25,000 and multi-unit buildings $10,000 per bedroom designated for infrastructure, that would help a lot. Let the politicians split it up — cities, counties, schools. Make that retroactive to January 2020.
