| December 31, 2021 1:18 AM

LEWISTON — Once Post Falls settled into Thursday’s championship game of the Avista Winter Classic at Lewis-Clark State, it got to work.

The Trojans, who trailed 18-6 after the first quarter, outscored the Lewiston Bengals 27-7 in the second quarter on the way to a 56-48 win.

“We got down 9-0 and 18-5 in the first quarter,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Lewiston came out and hit some shots with four 3-pointers in the first quarter. We got settled down and just chipped away at the lead.”

Capri Sims, named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Post Falls (12-2). Americus Crane had 10 of her 14 points in the second quarter and Hanna Christensen scored 11 points for the Trojans. Post Falls guard Trinidie Nichols was also named to the all-tournament team.

“I’m happy with the way we didn’t panic,” Allert said. “We just tightened things up on defense and chipped away at the lead.”

Katy Wessels scored 22 points for Lewiston (7-5).

The teams will meet next Friday in Lewiston in Inland Empire League play.
