PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Vikings slug past Shadle Park

| December 23, 2021 1:10 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — On a night where the energy wasn’t quite what it needed to be, it was still enough for Coeur d’Alene to get a double digit win heading into some key games in southern Idaho.

Senior post Cameren Cope had 26 points, hitting 12 of 14 free throws for the Vikings in a 62-47 win over the Shadle Park Highlanders at Viking Court on Wednesday.

“On our part, it was sluggish and we had poor execution,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams said. “I didn’t think we had great energy. They didn’t have much of an answer for Cameren. Shadle has some young guards and are playing some young guys, but we’ve got to do a better job of executing and putting teams away. It’s a win, but not a great win for us before we head to Boise.”

Steven Burgess had 16 points for Coeur d’Alene (5-1), which plays at Eagle on Tuesday at 6 p.m. PST. The Vikings will also play at Bishop Kelly on Wednesday, then conclude the trip at defending 5A champion Meridian on Thursday.

Jake Wilcox scored 13 points for Shadle Park (1-6).
