Margaret Alice Brown (Peggy), 92

| December 18, 2021 1:00 AM

Margaret Alice Brown (Peggy) was born in Bethlehem, Aug. 18, 1929. We all thought she and Jesus had the same birthplace, but it turns out this was Bethlehem, Pa. She was born to Ida Sims who married James Brown, Peggy grew up in New Jersey and spent summers at the Jersey shore.

Peggy's younger brother Jim Jr. lives in North Carolina. She went to Douglas College in New Jersey, on a full academic scholarship, and earned a degree in dietetics. She met her wonderful husband, Don Meiss there and after marrying in 1953, they moved out west to Montana.

She said that she and Don lived in 27 different houses as they moved quite often due to his job. The family lived in Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Texas, Montana and Colorado. Don and Peggy raised three children — Jim, Linda, and Diane. While we were growing up, the family spent many a week camping out across the United States. It always amazed us at how organized mom was with the food and supplies as the family usually camped for two weeks each summer. Peggy loved to spend time with friends skiing, golfing, playing tennis, as well as being a part of many organizations such as PEO and Stephen's Ministries.

When Don retired, they moved from Denver to Hayden Lake, Idaho and designed and built a stunning house on the Avondale Golf course. They were able to enjoy traveling to Hawaii and the Caribbean as well as a few trips to Europe. Peggy was a talented seamstress, making many dresses for her daughters as well as Diane's wedding dress and many extraordinary quilts that we all cherish.

Peggy and Don were active in their church and loved spending time on the golf course; they were married 63 years until Don passed away in May 2016. Besides being a wonderful mother and grandmother of five grandsons, she is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and was quite the fan of football and basketball. Her son, Jim (Mary Sue) lives in Boulder, Colo., he has a PhD in physics and teaches at the University of Colorado. Her daughter Linda (John) lives in Cheyenne, Wyo., after many years working in church ministry in Casper. Her daughter Diane (Jeff) lives in Boise, Idaho, after retiring from a career as a registered nurse in Coeur d'Alene. Peggy moved into "The Renaissance" in Coeur d'Alene in 2016, making many new friends, living there until she gently faded away on Dec. 9, 2021.
