NIC: The cars are crashing

| December 17, 2021 1:00 AM

When I was a kid we used to go to demolition derbies. The goal was to disable your opponent’s vehicle and it was best done driving backward, which protected the driver.

There is a definite parallel here to the actions of the NIC board. Three members of the board are going backward as fast as possible in order to dismantle their opposition.

While I applaud Mr. Tedmon’s call for cooperation going forward, he glosses over things like “unfortunate circumstances preclude the administration from using the formal hiring process.” The college is in serious trouble for precisely this reason.

The board has summarily rewritten policies to meet their goals. They fired an effective president without cause. They ignored policies and procedures which called for open discussion and decision making. We have one board member possibly not even eligible for his position along with the two members going backward and seeking to destroy an excellent institution of higher learning. I have to say the whole thing looks like a demolition derby to me.

There is no excuse for what they are doing. I hope the accreditation visit makes it clear to them they are putting the future of the college at risk. I hope local residents take a long hard look at what is going on and ask themselves if this is what they really want.

Stop making excuses and blaming “circumstances” that the board has created. Demand openness and accountability and a vision that creates, not destroys.
