New art show at Emerge

| December 17, 2021 1:00 AM

Opening last week, Horizon Mind will be on display at Emerge in Coeur d’Alene until the first of the new year.

The show features the work of artists Sarah Thompson Moore and Michael Horswill.

Moore currently resides in Coeur d’Alene. Trained as a bronze foundry artisan and mold-maker, Moore studied in Florence, Italy, and obtained a BFA in Sculpture from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2015.

Moore’s work has expanded recently into the realm of site-specific public art which has allowed her to more deeply engage with themes of nature, history, culture, community and scale.

Currently the artist is developing two site-specific public artworks that are scheduled for installation in both Spokane and Seattle, Wash. in 2022.

Horswill has worked in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene region since 1995, with an M.F.A. from the University of Idaho and an Art B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle.

He exhibits his work extensively, has received regional awards and public art commissions, and volunteers for local arts organizations.

He is a professor of studio art and art history at North Idaho College, where he said the intense exchange of ideas in the creative process inspires both teaching and art-making.

Emerge is located at 119 N. 2nd Street. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
