RATHDRUM — After playing the 5A Bengals to a 21-21 draw in the first half, the host 4A Hawks were outscored 28-15 — including 12-5 in the third quarter — in the Inland Empire League game at Hawk Court.

“We outworked them in the first half, and in the third quarter they outworked us,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said.

Addie Kiefer had another big game for Lakeland (2-5, 0-3 IEL) with 20 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and three assists. Kenna Simon added 12 points.

Junior post Katy Wessels led Lewiston (5-4, 2-1 IEL) with 17 points. Zoie Kessinger hit two 3-pointers and added 13 points and Ahnika U’Ren had nine points, all on 3s.

“Wessels is very strong, physical, and we had a hard time throwing girls at her in the post,” Seymour said. “They had a good combination of inside/outside. They did a good job of pressuring, and we’re doing better dealing with those situations, but we still turned the ball over too many times.”

Lakeland plays host to its third straight 5A opponent, Coeur d’Alene, on Tuesday in a league game.

“I’m pleased with the way we played tonight,” Lakeland coach Tony Hanna said. “We’re 1-3, but easily could be 4-0 right now.
