PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Balanced Lake City improves to 6-0

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City held visiting Rocky Mountain of Meridian to 11 points in the second half, and the Timberwolves pulled away to beat the Grizzlies 71-49 on Friday night at Lake City.

Sophomore Kamryn Pickford scored 15 points to lead five players into double figures for Lake City (6-0). Junior Emberlyn Reynolds added 14 points, senior Kendall Pickford and sophomore Kursten McKellips 11 points each, and soph Avery Waddington 10.

Kendall Pickford hit three 3-pointers, Waddington two.

“I think we’ve had five different leading scorers in six games,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We did a good job of keeping the ball moving. We preach being selfless from day one. They’re not worried about who scores, just playing really selfless basketball.”

Senior Marli Reed led Rocky Mountain (0-3) with 14 points. Brielle Magnuson, a junior who played at Post Falls last year, added 12 for the Grizzlies.

Lake City plays host to Meridian today at 1 p.m. to wrap up three games in three days vs. Boise-area schools.

POST FALLS — Junior Capri Sims scored 20 of her game-high 30 points in the first half, and finished with eight rebounds for the Trojans in a win over the Mustangs at The Arena.

“Capri just played really well,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Of her eight rebounds, six were offensive and putbacks. She was definitely a dominant force tonight.”

Americus Crane scored 19 points in the first three quarters for Post Falls (3-0), which hosts Rocky Mountain today at 1 p.m.

“She did a good job of getting out in transition and hit a couple of threes and did a good job for us,” Allert said of Crane. “She’s been really consistent in our first three games. We were pretty consistent as a team tonight both offensively and defensively and I was really happy with how we played tonight.”

Lexi Heath added 10 rebounds for Post Falls.

Kylan Wallace and Sydney Beck scored eight points each for Eagle (2-5), which visits Coeur d’Alene today at 1 p.m.

COEUR d’ALENE — Skylar Burke scored 21 points as the host Vikings jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter en route to the win over the Warriors at Viking Court.

Madi Symons added 13 points, Lily Phenicie 12 for Coeur d’Alene (3-0).

“Great first and fourth quarter, but struggled in the middle of the game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nicole Symons said. “Growing as a team each game. Lily Phenicie played great tonight and Maddie Mitchell was solid on defense.”

Jenna Fawley scored 13 points for Meridian (1-3).

Coeur d’Alene plays host to Eagle today at 1.

SPOKANE — Addie Kiefer had a game-high 22 points, and also had nine rebounds and three assists, and had all five of her steals in the first half, as the Hawks flew away from the Knights in the Border Clash at West Valley High.

Freshman Ziya Munyer added 16 points and eight rebounds for Lakeland (2-2), which plays West Valley today at 2:30. Landree Simon had nine points and nine boards for the Hawks.

“They did a good job running the floor, and applying pressure on defense,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “It was fun to see them get out in the open floor and make good decisions.”

Ellie Syverson led East Valley with 21 points.

SPIRIT LAKE — Ciara Soumas hit four 3-pointers and scored all 12 of her points in the first half as the host Tigers pulled away in the finals three quarters to beat the Rams of Chattaroy, Wash.

McKennah Kronenberg hit three of her four 3s in the first half for the Tigers (1-1), and scored 11 of her 15 points before intermission.

Marissa Needs added 10 points for Timberlake, which made 13 3s.

“Every year we talk about playing to our strengths and away from our weaknesses,” Tigers coach Matt Miller said. “Hopefully we get good on making reads. They played a zone all game, so we had a lot of perimeter looks, and we took ’em, and luckily tonight they went in.”

Sam Riggles scored 18 points, Aquinna Riggles 12 for Riverside.

Timberlake heads to Orofino today for a 2:30 tilt.
