PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Symons' double-double leads Cd'A past Rocky Mountain

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior forward Madi Symons had 21 points and 20 rebounds for Coeur d’Alene in a 58-54 win over Rocky Mountain High of Meridian on Thursday at Viking Court.

Senior Skylar Burke had 17 points, six steals and four rebounds for Coeur d’Alene (2-0), which hosts Meridian tonight at 7 p.m.

Brielle Magnuson, who played as a sophomore at Post Falls High, scored 13 points for Rocky Mountain (0-2), picked by coaches to finish seventh in the 12-team 5A Southern Idaho Conference. Anna Dabell also had 13 points for Rocky Mountain, which visits Lake City tonight.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kendall Pickford, the lone senior, hit six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points and six assists as the host Timberwolves romped past the Mustangs.

Sophomore Avery Waddington added 14 points and four steals for Lake City (5-0). Emberlyn Reynolds had nine points and seven rebounds, Sophia Zufelt six points and four steals.

“We started the game with really good energy,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We moved the ball and made shots early, and it got contagious.”

Aspen Carter scored six points for Eagle (2-4), picked by coaches to finish fifth this season in the 12-team 5A Southern Idaho Conference.

Lake City plays host to Rocky Mountain tonight at 5:30.

POST FALLS — Americus Crane got the Trojans going in the first quarter, then the defense did the rest in the second half.

Crane scored eight of her game-high 15 points in the first quarter as the Trojans held the Warriors to five second half field goals in a win at The Arena.

“They were beating us off the dribble, so we made a couple of tweaks at halftime,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “It just seemed like we were out of rhythm all night, and we got things fixed the third quarter. Americus did a good job of getting us going in the first quarter.”

Lexi Heath scored 14 points, Capri Sims had nine points and eight rebounds for Post Falls (2-0), which hosts Eagle tonight. Hanna Christensen also scored nine for Post Falls.

Paige Watson had 12 points for Meridian (1-2), which plays at Coeur d’Alene tonight. Meridian was picked to finish sixth in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference.

CLARK FORK — Sophomore Emily Coe almost had a triple-double with 13 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists as the visiting Wildcats, without three starters and their head coach, beat the Wampus Cats in nonleague play.

Macy Jerome added 11 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Wildcats (4-1), and Kay Reed had eight boards.

“All the players stepped up,” Kellogg assistant coach Gus Colburn said. “Some were in positions they’re not normally in, and they stepped up.”

Lily Reuter scored six points for Clark Fork (0-2).

Kellogg returns to action at the Frenchtown (Mont.) tournament next Friday and Saturday.

ST. MARIES — Senior Jaden House scored 20 points, hitting 5 of 9 from the 3-point line, to lead the Miners past the Lumberjacks in a nonleague game.

“We jumped out early and it was kind of back and forth early on,” St. Maries coach Gary Krumheuer said. “They caught fire and we quit shooting. We had to speed the game up, and it worked to their advantage.”

Berkli McGreal scored 12 points and Sami Sindt had 11 points for St. Maries (0-5), which travels to Troy on Saturday. Stacie Mitchell had nine rebounds for St. Maries.

Britany Phillips scored 13 points for Wallace (5-1), which is scheduled to host Mullan on Dec. 10.
