Weight classes adopted for

state girls wrestling

The Idaho High School Activities Association announced the adoption of 10 separate weight classes for girls wrestling, which has been sanctioned for the first time during the 2021-22 season in the state.

Weights will be 106 pounds, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 170 and 195, keeping weights similar to those used for boys wrestling. Boys have a 98- and 285-pound class.

Eight wrestlers in each weight will qualify for the state tournament. The board will determine representation for each district/region at the December board meeting next week.

Currently, there are 388 girls out for wrestling statewide, up from 250 the previous two seasons.
