Felon charged with battery

COEUR d’ALENE — A man who allegedly battered his wife at her workplace is being held on $50,000 bail.

The 54-year-old Coeur d’Alene resident is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony, and with domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

The charges stem from Nov. 26, when police responded to a report of a disturbance at a Coeur d’Alene business where a woman said her husband had attacked her while she was working.

He allegedly slapped his wife across the face so hard that she fell.

Another employee told police she found the woman on the floor with her husband standing over her.

She reportedly helped herd the man out the back door. He then left in a vehicle.

The man reportedly returned twice more and banged on the windows.

The third time the man approached the business, he allegedly put a handgun in his mouth and threatened to shoot himself before leaving the scene.

The man was reportedly on parole after a 2018 conviction for possession of a controlled substance.

In Idaho, it is illegal for a person convicted of a felony to possess a firearm.

Police obtained a warrant for the man’s arrest and took him into custody Monday evening.

He remains in jail on $50,000 bail.

The Press is not naming the suspect at this time because that would reveal the identity of the victim.
