Richard 'Dick' Livingston, 84

| December 1, 2021 1:00 AM

Richard "Dick" Livingston was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., where he and his sister, Gretchen, were raised to adulthood.

While in his youth, he joined The Boy Scouts of America, which he maintained a role in for the rest of his life. After college and his military service in Germany, he moved to Ukiah, Calif., where he met his first wife, Hazel and her daughter, Scarlett. They moved to Pinehurst, Idaho, and his first son, James, was born.

From there, they moved to Moses Lake, Wash., where his entrepreneurial spirit grabbed him and he started the Ephrata Bike Shop and moved to Ephrata, Wash. Although less than successful, that path led him to start a second business, Augment Enterprises, a handyman service.

In 1978, he went to work for Schulls Cyclery and Key in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and moved to Rathdrum, Idaho (his forever home). There he met his best friend, Roy Schaffer, who introduced him to the love of his life Annie and her daughter, Lotti. From this union came his second child, Richard Jr. A few years later three more boys, Jamie, Jason and Billy joined his family. Although he only fathered two biological children, he took on the role of Father, Big Brother, Grandfather, Mentor and Friend to most everyone he met.

He loved his community and received a citizen of the year award. Old cars were also one of his passions and he was a founding member of the North Idaho Classics car club and would often be found at the local car shows.

He believed strongly in kindness and the golden rule and practiced those philosophies the best he could to the end.

He left this physical life on Sept. 21, 2021, and will be dearly missed but not forgotten.
