TUKWILA, Wash. — Goalkeeper Stuart Heringer stopped four shots for North Idaho College, which defeated the Edmonds Tritons 2-0 in a Northwest Athletic Conference friendly at the Starfire Soccer Complex on Thursday.

“He’s a strong leader back there,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “He doesn’t miss a beat whether we’re pushing up or moving back. His distribution with his feet is exceptional. A lot of teams give up some chances by giving the ball away, but he plays pretty clean and doesn’t give chances away.”

Braden Bennett scored his second goal of the season to give NIC a 1-0 lead at halftime. Aidan Holfedt added his first goal of the season in the second half for NIC (2-0-0), which defeated South Puget Sound 4-0 on Wednesday.

“It’s a great start to the season,” Thompson said. “Winning is great for team morale and what we’re trying to be about. There’s a few simple pieces that we’re still trying to put together, but if they do, could be big for us this season.”

NIC is scheduled to travel to Everett on Sept. 3.

Edmonds is 1-1-0.
