Holte, Dale John, 93

Dale John Holte passed from this world into eternity to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Aug. 13, 2021. Dad arrived Oct. 2, 1927, at home to John and Edith (Johnson) Holte in Larson, N.D. Dale was the only boy with four older sisters. His mother died young when he was seven years old.

He walked to a country school and worked alongside his father on the farm. We thought Dad could do anything: farming, milking carpentry, mechanic work — anything and everything needed on the farm.

Dale met Phyllis Gunlock at the tender age of five and they became life-long sweethearts. They were married June 27, 1948, at the church parsonage in Noonan, N.D. They celebrated 73 loving years together. Dale and Phyllis were blessed with five children: Ronald, Sherlene (Ron Mendive), Randy (Jane Finney), Kim (Dianna Simons), and Rodney (Cindy Lepka). The Holte family grew in numbers with 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A move from North Dakota to Havre, Mont., found him farming on a large wheat farm for three years. The next move was to a small farm in Hayden, Idaho in 1956. He began working for the State Highway Dept. and remained there until retirement. On the farm they milked two cows, raised their own beef, tended a productive garden and orchard, and reared their children.

Dad and mom loved to dance and travel. They enjoyed wintering 19 years in Mesa, Ariz. They also ventured to Norway, Israel, Hawaii, Alaska, and many other states. At home in Hayden, Mom loved her flowers and Dad liked the outdoors, especially hunting with his boys. Dad and Mom were also members of the Eagles in Coeur d’Alene where they enjoyed the dances and dinners.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; his two sons, Ronald and Rodney; and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Holte. Dale is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his sons, Randy and Kim; and daughter, Sherlene, and their families; many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren scattered from North Dakota, Montana, Alaska, Washington, California, and here in Coeur d’Alene.

They are charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church where Dale’s funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30, 2021.

Dad had a good long life blessed by the Lord, “ ... HE who began a good work in you will perfect it until the Day of Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 1:6

I often think there might be a big flashing reader board in Heaven, and it would say: “Dale John Holte has arrived.”
