MASKS: Spotlight on evidence

| August 25, 2021 1:00 AM

Thank you, Doug Albertson for your eloquent way of explaining why we should be listening to science experts and getting vaccinated.

Regarding mask wearing, thank you for addressing the obvious evidence by connecting the fact that surgeons have been wearing masks since the 1800s, thereby mitigating infection rates during surgery.

Especially poignant was this: “Let’s assume that I suddenly had a medical problem that required surgery, and further assume I could actually find a bed at Kootenai Health that wasn’t occupied by a COVID patient. If I had a choice between a vaccinated nurse and an unvaccinated one, which would I choose? Well, I already have a medical problem. If I choose a vaccinated nurse, it is likely I’ll just have the original medical problem. If I choose the unvaccinated nurse who may have a circle of like-minded friends, I have a chance of contracting COVID on top of my original medical issue.”

This is clear, relatable and might reach someone still on the fence.

If wearing a mask, avoiding large groups of unmasked people, and getting vaccinated will save someone from contracting COVID and potentially dying, then I want to be on that side of the fence. When I wear a mask, I am protecting others. That’s the least I can do.
