PREP ROUNDUP: Young Post Falls squad falls to Moscow

| August 24, 2021 1:00 AM

POST FALLS - A bit of miscommunication and a tough save on a strong shot kept the young Post Falls boys soccer team from posting its first win of the season.

Instead, a second-half goal from Moscow's Tyler Wooley held up and the visiting Bears earned a 2-1 victory on Monday.

"We have a really inexperienced team," Trojans coach Gabe Lawson said of his squad, which has only three players with previous varsity experience. "There's a lot of finding themselves, and figuring out the pace of this next level.

"In general, we played OK - moved the ball pretty well, and had a good scoring chance stopped by a tough save. We had a few communications issues on defense ... but we will improve over time."

Coalby Calkins scored an unassisted goal on a corner kick late in the first half, tying the game for Post Falls (0-2).

Kael McGowan had five saves for the Trojans, who host Thunder Ridge on Friday.

ST. MARIES - A hat trick by Mia Rioux led the visiting Bulldogs to the Central Idaho League victory, but Lumberjacks coach Tyler Morris was impressed with his team's effort on Monday.

"My defense had an amazing game. Alli Dundas helped keep the score down with all of her hustle on the back line," Morris said. "We just need to find where everybody fits on the rest of the field and it will all fall into place."

Jacklin Linnemeyer had five saves for St. Maries (0-1), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.

First half - 1. G, Mia Rioux (unassisted) 7:00. Second half - 2. G, Rioux (unassisted) 62:00. 3. G, Rioux (unassisted) 64:00.
