COEUR d’ALENE — In a game with plenty of bounces, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings finally got one to go their way.

Junior Cooper Prohaska had the ball bounce to his foot off a free kick by Alex Reyes at the 18-yard line, and Prohaska proceeded to put it into the goal in the 52nd minute for the lone score of a 1-0 win over the Post Falls Trojans in the season and Inland Empire League opener for both schools on Saturday.

“It’s always exciting to see a 5A team right away,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “You could tell it was early and both teams were still figuring things out. We took a lot of low-percentage shots, and it’s clear what we need to work on.”

Coeur d’Alene had 13 shots on goal, with Post Falls goalkeeper Kael McGowan saving 12. Ridgewell added the Vikings had 31 total shots.

“It’s clear what we’ve got to work on,” Ridgewell said. “Post Falls always comes out strong. Kudos to Kael; he really kept their team alive today.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lakeland in league play on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Senior Olivia Wyatt recorded a hat trick in the second half and junior Elise Frasier had a goal and an assist for the Vikings in an Inland Empire League win over the Trojans.

“It was a good opener for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “We moved the ball around really well. In the second half, we came out really strong. We’ve got a lot of new players on varsity, so it was good to get out and see what we’ve got. We got a lot of looks and things kind of went our way today.”

Wyatt moved from the left to the right side after the half, scoring the final three goals of the match.

“She really came out and turned it on after halftime,” Vredenburg said. “She just got in the zone.”
