POLARIZED: Blame the media

| August 22, 2021 1:00 AM

In regard to Sholeh Patrick’s column regarding the causes for the polarization of America, I found a glaring lack of insight on how the American news media has played a major role in the process of fomenting tribalism in America.

The news media is overwhelmingly dominated by politically left-leaning “journalists.” Examples: the entire Trump administration years were plagued by the news media constantly perpetuating the fabricated claim of Russian collusion; the obvious bias against Americans who hold Judeo-Christian values and traditional beliefs of American liberty and freedom; the belittling of Americans who question the effectiveness of wearing masks while excusing demonstrators/rioters who were not wearing masks or social distancing while destroying buildings. Journalism has been transformed into political activism.

In short, the news media has proven themselves to be untrustworthy. What Sholeh appears to underestimate is that many Americans are looking for news outlets that are presenting objective truth. But how can the political left recognize objective truth when they are immersed in a paradigm of relativism?

Commonly, the predominantly leftist news media has functioned more like agents of propaganda for the Democratic Party. I would not be surprised to learn that all of the sources in her opinion piece are politically left-leaning academicians. Is it any wonder that America has become polarized?
