Judy Hawkins, 79

| August 21, 2021 1:00 AM

Judy Ann Hawkins, 79, beloved wife, mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at the Spokane Hospice House on August 13, 2021, with family at her side.

Judy was born November 23, 1941, to Vic and Lorreta Cook in Gibbs, Idaho. She attended St. Thomas Grade School and IHM Academy before graduating from Coeur d’ Alene High School in 1959. Judy married Jim Hawkins on February 7, 1962, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Together they had five children: Jim Jr, Clay, Patti, David, and Ron. Judy was a devoted wife and mother who also worked nearly 20 years as a supervisor for Clare Pendar/General Instrument. Judy was quietly selfless and many of her friends referred to her as Saint Judy.

She loved sports and played softball and ran hurdles while in school. She enjoyed rafting, boating, hiking and playing golf in her adult years. Judy loved going to sporting events and never missed a chance to watch her children and grandchildren participate. She loved traveling and was particularly fond of Hawaii, Mexico, and New Orleans. The Okanogan area, Banff and Glacier National Park also held special places in her heart and a cruise to Alaska in recent years was a bucket list experience for her.

The North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River was like a second home to Judy where decades of fun and relaxation were shared with dear friends and family. Camping, forest walks, float trips, ATV rides, huckleberry picking, card games and animal viewing drives were a constant.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Vic and Lorreta, her brothers, Tom and Jimmy, and her sister, Sally. She is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughter, Patti, her sons Jim Jr, Clay, David (Kelli), and Ron (Marie), her brother Gary (Jill), sister-in-law Dina Cook, brother-in-law Jim Schreiber, and grandchildren Abi, Janika, Hailey, Madison, Travis, Katie, Hannah, and Brodie, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her name, if you would like, can be made to the Pritchard-Murray Volunteer Fire Department or the Boys and Girls Club of Coeur d’Alene.

Judy will be dearly missed but her selfless compassion and dedication to family will be forever cherished and passed on.

Mass of Christian Burial for Judy will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana Ave. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and a reception at St. Thomas Center will follow. A private burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
