COEUR d’ALENE — Thanks to Jordan and Amy Redman of Redman & Company Insurance, New Life Community Church and international humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope, the Day of Hope event is coming to Coeur d’Alene this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Organizers plan to welcome about 2,000 community members to the event at 1234 W. Appleway Ave.

Free and open to all, organizers said they're excited to bring the community this gift.

Food will be served throughout the day and school supplies, family portraits, haircuts and groceries will be offered at no cost.

“There’s definitely a need in the community for people to get together,” said Geoffrey Winkler, lead pastor of New Life Church. “We are better together than we are separate.”

The goal of organizers is to provide for the needs of people in the community. Even something as simple as a warm smile and a hot meal can help, Winkler said.

“So many people in the community are helping to support this event,” said Jordan Redman, who led the project.

A true collaboration, the event brings together churches, nonprofit groups and businesses as a way to serve people in the community, Winkler said.

The Redmans were inspired during a recent visit to a Convoy of Hope event in Georgia.

They had gone there to see what other folks were doing in their own communities, Jordan said. It was that experience that prompted the two to put together an event for Coeur d’Alene.

“I just love this community,” Jordan said. “I was born and raised here, and my wife and I have been so blessed by this community.”

The events of the past year have deeply affected people, Winkler said. Recognizing that need is what motivated them to take action.

Convoy of Hope lives up to this quote from their website: “Together we can change the world.”

Founded in 1994, the organization focuses on outreach events, providing disaster response and the promotion of children’s feeding initiatives.

The Redmans have been involved with Convoy of Hope for “quite some time,” Jordan said.

Vitalant will also be on hand Saturday with a bloodmobile to accept donations.

The team is still in need of another hairdresser to help with the free haircuts. If any readers are able to help please contact Rachel Malloy, executive assistant to Jordan, at 208-691-7093.
