COEUR d'ALENE — For those of you who can hardly wait to don red dresses and pub crawl through downtown, your chance is almost here.

The seventh annual Red Dress Run, a fundraiser organized by the Coeur d’Alene Hash House Harriers, starts off Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at The Crown & Thistle Pub in downtown Coeur d’Alene and finishes at 8 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889, with all proceeds going to this year’s local charity pick, the Kootenai Humane Society.

“Without fundraisers like this, we would have to close our doors, so we're very excited to see it,” said Vicky Nelson, development director of the Kootenai Humane Society. “I think it's hysterical to see all walks of life running down the streets of Coeur d’Alene in a red dress, so hopefully it'll bring a lot of attention to what they're doing and the reason for it.”

Nelson said the donation from the fundraiser will be a huge help and goes directly toward caring for the animals.

“This town has been incredible when we're out doing our thing,” said Mark Enegren, founder of the Coeur d’Alene Hash House Harriers chapter, a drinking/running club promoting physical fitness. “Everyone seems to smile and laugh.”

Enegren said the best part of the run is donating to a local charity and interacting with the community.

“You get some weird looks when you're a guy wearing a dress, but it's for charity, and it's to draw attention,” Enegren said. “I like that aspect and I like that it's fun.”

The pub crawl is organized in the style of hounds and hares, with the group following clues to the final destination throughout bars in downtown, with a stop at Tubbs Hill for a swim. Participating bars will have discounts for drinks, raffles, activities and prizes. Pizza and beer will be provided at the VFW closing up the event, as well as dancing and a DJ.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or online on Eventbrite under 7th Annual Red Dress Run for the Hounds, or found through Facebook @CDAHashHouseHarriers.
