Police: Man crashed after high-speed chase

POST FALLS — A man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase before crashing and later kicking an officer in the groin is being held on $100,000 bail.

Zackree R. Lockman, 27, of Athol, is charged with eluding, battery upon an officer and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

He is also charged with two counts of unlawful entry, as well as reckless driving, driving without privileges, failure to give immediate notice of an accident and leaving the scene of a damage accident, all misdemeanors.

Lockman allegedly failed to stop when Rathdrum police attempted to pull him over for a traffic infraction Saturday afternoon.

He sped up, according to court documents, and officers discontinued the pursuit.

When a different officer attempted to pull Lockman over, he allegedly accelerated again.

Police pursued Lockman at speeds of up to 94 mph, according to court records, before ending the chase due to dangerous speeds and increasingly heavy traffic.

Soon after, Post Falls police were dispatched to a crash in a residential area.

Witnesses reportedly saw one of the drivers involved in the crash, later identified as Lockman, running from the scene.

Police from multiple area agencies searched for Lockman, who allegedly entered several homes while hiding from law enforcement.

Officers located and arrested Lockman near the American Legion Post, according to court documents.

Lockman had numerous fentanyl pills in his pockets at the time of his arrest, police said.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid more than 50 times more powerful than morphine or heroin.

Lockman allegedly told police he fled the first officer who tried to pull him over because he didn’t want to get caught with the drugs.

Police transported Lockman to Kootenai Health for observation due to suspected opioid use.

At the hospital, Lockman allegedly became combative and kicked an officer in the groin.

Judge Debra Heise ordered that Lockman be held on $100,000 bail.

In a separate matter, Lockman was charged earlier this year with burglary and willful concealment of goods, both misdemeanors.

He is expected to face a jury trial later this month.
