Anthony announces bid for Post Falls council

| August 13, 2021 1:00 AM

Post Falls City Councilman Steve Anthony has announced he is running for re-election.

Anthony was first elected to Seat 4 in 2017.

“I am a fiscally conservative leader and since elected to office, we have not collected the 3% annual tax increase allowed by state law," he said.

During his time as a council member, Anthony has been a strong supporter of attracting new business to keep our region thriving.

“With new industries comes growth, and we need to prepare for that,” Anthony said. “The city of Post Falls has done a remarkable job of preparing for the influx of business and people relocating to our area.”

Anthony said the council has made good progress, but there is more he wants to accomplish. He said some of his proudest accomplishments as a council member include updates to the city’s reclaimed water facility and water systems and technological improvements to protect and enhance our most precious natural resource, our water quality.

Others include a downtown URD plan, Parks and Recreation Plan and the increase in impact fees for streets, police, parks and recreation and bike trails. The city has set aside over 200 Acres of Open Space on the Prairie and south of the river.

“My mission is to protect, conserve and preserve our quality of life in Post Falls with a focus on sound public policy that is in the best interest of the citizens of Post Falls,” Anthony said. “I will always listen to my constituents and base my decisions on our ordinances and established policies and state laws.” Anthony is a strong supporter of recreational opportunities for families and park development for the benefit of present and future generations.

Anthony is a lifetime resident of Kootenai County. He and his wife, Robin, raised their five children in North Idaho, and now enjoy watching their nine grandchildren grow up.

Anthony received an associate degree from North Idaho College and went on to graduate from the University of Idaho with bachelor's and master’s degrees. He spent most of his career working as the recreation director for the city of Coeur d’Alene. He also was staff liaison to the Art Commission and the Jewett House Senior Center.

Anthony previously served on the boards of Panhandle Kiwanis, Special Olympics and United Way and as a member of the Kroc Center Recruiting Committee. Anthony served as president of Idaho USA Softball, and retired as the Idaho USA Softball commissioner after 20 years. He also served two terms as president of the Idaho Recreation and Parks Association. He was instrumental in starting Special Needs Recreation of Kootenai County. He was named Idaho Sports Hero by USA Today and has received the Leon Green Fellowship award for Outstanding Parks and Recreation Professional in Idaho. In 2015, Anthony was recognized by the Inland Empire Sports Writers and Broadcasters for 40 years of public service to Inland Empire Adults and Children. He is currently employed by Kootenai Health.
