Fundraiser Sunday for CDA woman

| August 11, 2021 1:00 AM

A fundraiser for a Coeur d'Alene woman fighting lung disease is set for Sunday at Ponderosa Springs Golf Course.

"Lungs for Stacy" will offer golf, a corn hole tournament, prizes, music, food and drink, with proceeds benefitting Stacy Carter.

"Join the fun and play some golf with CHS Class of '90 and support classmate Stacy Carter in her fight for a life-saving lung transplant," says a flyer.

Golf is $30 per player. The corn hole tournament is $20 a team, with a 50/50 purse.

Organizer and friend Brenda Nearpass asks that folks let her know in advance that they plan to attend at 208-659-4349 or brendanearpass@gmail.com.

Carter has raised $2,660 toward a goal of $10,000 at GoFundMe.

She writes that her illness began a few years ago when she couldn't shake a case of pneumonia.

"My body started giving out and I was put into a coma and put on a breathing machine. The doctors told my husband to get my affairs in order, that he didn't think I would come out of it," she wrote.

She did, but the battle isn't over.

Her disease is called interstitial lung disease brought on by black mold exposure and is rare, Carter wrote.

A lung transplant could extend her life, she wrote.

"I will certainly die without this procedure," Carter wrote. "Please please please help me!! I have lived a wonderful giving life and I just want to be around for my children and grandchildren."
