NEW TAX: Idahoans beware

| August 8, 2021 1:00 AM

In 2019, the Washington State Legislature quietly found a way to tax many working Idahoans.

If you work in the state of Washington, starting Jan. 1, 2022, you will pay .58% of your income (this percentage can even be raised without authorization) to the state of Washington for their Long Term Care Tax. If you are lucky enough to live in Idaho but work in Washington, not only will you pay the tax, but you can never reap the benefit of it as long as you live in Idaho.

So if an Idahoan averaged $60K per year and spent their career working across the state line, they’d generously gift a minimum of $13K to the Washington state coffers. There is also no cap on the amount of income that can be taxed.

Clever move, Washington. Clever move.
