GARBAGE: Better business needed

| August 6, 2021 1:00 AM

Dear Mr. Saterfiel,

We don’t get any tax revenue? Poppycock. I and every other land owner in Kootenai County pays a tax for the landfill on our property tax bill. Renters don’t but owners do. That’s why there’s so many cars in the Worley dump site with Washington plates. They own property on the lake, pay their property tax and are therefore entitled to dump their trash in a county dumpster.

You’ve got to be competitive. With who? Oh, you must mean that other landfill.

Frankly, Mr. Saterfiel, I loved your response to the guy who pointed out that the problem wasn’t the users but rather the county as there wasn’t an adequate number of dumpsters and they weren’t emptied often enough. Oh, well, you say, I’ve seen it where dumpsters fill up so fast that we can’t keep up.

Let me tell you how business works. You are supposed to provide a good or service. You either provide it or you don’t stay in business. I ran a Domino’s pizza back in the ’70s. Monday through Thursday were usually quiet. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Super Bowl Sunday? Woohoo! I had extra everything. I never once told a customer that I couldn’t make them a pie.

And if, by bad luck, I ran out of something, I’d have a driver go to the grocery store and get it for me and I took the hit to my bottom line. It’s called advanced planning.
