Auditions set for Traditions of Christmas

| August 6, 2021 1:00 AM

Traditions of Christmas is holding auditions for both choir singers and musical theater singers as it returns to the stage for its ninth year of shows.

“Being involved in this show, you can’t help but bond with your fellow cast and crew,” said co-producer Marie Hunt. “A few years ago, my family and I had the opportunity to be in the cast together, and it was a very special time. Really, it would be a great way for someone who is new to town to make friends. It’s a wonderful community to be a part of.”

This year they are, once again, limiting the cast to 13 years old and above.

Hunt said they are looking for a variety of roles in a variety of age groups. Both male and female singers are needed. Dancing is not required. These roles rehearse Monday evenings.

They are also looking for adults ages 17-30 who are dancers and singers, and they rehearse Sunday and Tuesday evenings.

The third type of performer needed is Rockette-style kickline dancers. They need to be flexible dancers with tap experience, and they rehearse on Sunday afternoons.

The show is produced by Laura Little Theatricals and Red Bird Theater.

Laura Little’s Broadway credits include co-producer of the Tony Award-winning "Come From Away" and "Peter and the Starcatcher".

Hunt, Red Bird Theater owner, has been co-producing Traditions of Christmas alongside Little since 2019.

Traditions of Christmas is a Radio City Music Hall style show which includes choreographed kickline tap numbers, song and dance numbers set to Christmas song standbys, a military tribute performance, and a Nativity conclusion.

While the heart of the show remains the same from year to year, the producers change a handful of scenes to keep the show fresh for those who attend annually.

There are hundreds of costumes in the show and each year new ones are added, not only for the audience’s enjoyment, but for the cast to have something to look forward to.

Traditions of Christmas has become a popular outing for groups of businesses associates, groups of friends and generations of families.

It will be performed at the Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center, 1765 W Golf Course Rd., Coeur d'Alene, Dec. 10-22.
