Raymond John Gotz, 95

Raymond John Gotz passed away at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on July 18, 2021. He was 95 years old and, despite sight and hearing loss, remained independently in his own home until shortly before his death.

Ray was born June 25, 1926, in Park Falls, Wis. He graduated from Park Falls High School in 1944. He entered the Navy and served aboard a destroyer at the end of WWII. Upon returning home from the service, he worked his entire career as a supervisor for Anets Corporation in Northbrook, Ill.

Ray married Marie Koeck, who passed away in December of 1976 at age 48. Five years later he married Louise Newquist, who passed away in December of 2017.

Ray enjoyed woodworking after he and Louise retired to Coeur d’Alene. He was a member of the Woodworker’s Guild for many years. He loved creating intricate wood projects and gave many of them to friends. Ray was also a long-time faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, also attending 1st Presbyterian Church with Louise.

He is survived by stepdaughter, Ann Newquist-Sucherman; siblings, Laura Yunk of Park Falls, Wis.; Dorothy Witte of Milwaukee, Wis., and Howard Gotz of Pengilly, Minn. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Otto Gotz.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He will be interred in All Saints Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Des Plaines, Ill.
