RATHDRUM — The Rathdrum Area Chamber of Commerce will cover the cost for local business members of the chamber to be a part of the Commerce Community Business Fair coming up on Aug. 14.

“This is our first time ever hosting this event,” said chamber executive director Ashley Moore. “We are partnering with the city, to benefit our businesses during one of the best attended events in Rathdrum,” Moore said.

The chamber plans to host the event annually.

Taking place during the Taste of Rathdrum event, Majestic Park will be filled with live music, vendors, tons of local flavors and even a hot dog-eating contest.

“We want to showcase our local businesses who are members of the chamber and really encourage everyone to shop local,” Moore said.

Currently around 20 businesses are registered but the chamber is accepting applications through Aug. 11.

About half of the businesses are actively hiring, Moore said.

Like the rest of Kootenai county, Rathdrum has seen its businesses struggle to hire and maintain adequate staffing.

“We’re seeing businesses do the best they can,” she said. Moore said that many have adjusted their hours or taken other measures to keep their doors open.

The business fair hours will be from noon until 6 p.m.
