He attended Big Bend Community College, and graduated from Washington State University in 1968, with a BA in Communications.

Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from December 1968 to December 1970, stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. He married his college sweetheart, Sherry Ramey, on Oct. 23, 1971, in Spokane at Millwood Presbyterian Church.

Joe spent 30 years as a broadcaster. He started as a student in Moses Lake at KSEM and KWIQ. He was an on-air personality at KWSU in Pullman and KRPL Radio in Moscow, Idaho. After graduating from WSU, he worked at KXLY Radio in Spokane.

He became General Manager in 1985 of KVNI Radio in Coeur d’Alene.

Joe was a member of both the Elks and Lions Clubs. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and Commodores.

Joe was an avid reader. He was a ‘foodie’ and gourmet cook. He thoroughly enjoyed hitting the restaurant scenes in he and Sherry’s many travel adventures, both here at home and abroad, or on board a cruise ship. He dabbled in photography and used his talents to record family memories with his love of music and photography.

Joe was a fan of anything to do with the WSU Cougars, especially football. He was a cheering fan in the stands when the team made it to the 1998 Rose Bowl. He also enjoyed cheering on the Seahawks and Gonzaga Bulldogs. Joe liked watching car shows. He loved his red Camaro that he drove around town.
