COMMISH: More than three for thee

Dear Burt Rutan,

You do not compute!

The idea behind more than three commissioners carries benefits not currently enjoyed.

1) More part-time commissioners widens the gene pool of working and retired citizens who want to contribute. We can pay them less and they won’t need benefits.

2) Currently, they cannot meet to kick around ideas or to study an issue due to a quorum. That is inefficient.

3) More minds does not lead to failure and it is harder for a faction to control the body. That seems to be the real opposition.

4) This should not be a career but service with vision and experience.

Long-range planning will be enhanced further with a County Manager/Liaison directing and reporting.

The voters vote for the commissioners as always — they get to vote for more of them. And we should get more experience.

This idea keeps coming up because it has merit.
