SANDPOINT — Police arrested a Bonner County man who is accused of sending explicit messages to a 14-year-old girl almost four years ago.

David A. Dorland, 28, of Sandpoint, is charged with enticing a child through the use of the internet, a felony.

The girl’s father contacted police in June 2017, after he said he found explicit messages from Dorland on his daughter’s phone.

Police said Dorland, who was 24 years old at the time, had sent the girl nude pictures of himself and attempted to arrange to meet her for sex.

Charges were filed in March 2018.

A total of four court summons were issued between May 2018 and February 2021.

When Dorland failed to appear in court in March 2021, a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

Police arrested Dorland in Bonner County last week. He appeared in court in Kootenai County yesterday.

Prosecutors said in court Wednesday that 11 warrants have been issued for Dorland’s arrest throughout his life. He reportedly has three pending criminal cases in Bonner County.

Dorland is being held on $50,000 bail.
