100 holes for the shelter

| April 27, 2021 1:00 AM

Local golf professional Austin Westphal plans to play 100 holes of golf on Saturday.

But he won’t be swinging for birdies or eagles. This is for dogs and cats.

The Pacific Northwest Section PGA recently announced the inaugural 100-Hole Marathon for charity.

Westphal is taking the challenge to complete 100 holes of golf at Avondale Golf Club to raise money for the Kootenai Humane Society. Even if he manages to play each hole in five minutes, it will take him close to 10 hours. And the weather forecast as of Monday is for rain and thunderstorms on Saturday.

KHS has a save rate of about 95%. More than 300 pets have been adopted there this year.

It has raised nearly $4.9 million toward its goal of $6.5 million to build a new 24,000-square-foot shelter west of the Coeur d’Alene Airport on Atlas Road.
