DALTON: Bad idea with bows

| April 25, 2021 1:00 AM

The Dalton City Council is trying to push through a program that would allow bow hunting in our neighborhood, despite the fact that most residents do not want or agree with it.

We purchased our home in Dalton Gardens because of the rural community and the abundant wildlife. The deer are part of Dalton’s charm — this is their home too!

The proposed program is not even effective. The instant kill rate for bow hunting is only about 50%, which means the remaining 50% will be staggering around the neighborhood suffering, which is inhumane and intolerable.

The thought of looking out the front window over the field and witnessing a deer being killed and dressed is horrifying! I cannot imagine taking a walk or riding a bike through the neighborhood, nor can I imagine a family or a young child seeing this. Dalton Gardens is a special place and a sanctuary. We need to protect it and ensure it is a peaceful place for all.

A bow hunting program in our town will destroy our sense of community and turn neighbor against neighbor.

I ask each community member to tell the City Council that this program is unacceptable, ineffective and intolerable.
