Robert Wayne Fitzgerald II

| April 24, 2021 1:00 AM

Robert W. Fitzgerald was a husband, father and grandfather. His life ended as a retired police officer of 43 years. Three of those years were spent as an international police officer, two years overseas in Kosovo, and one year in Iraq. He started as a patrolman and worked his way up to chief of police. He retired from the Rosalia Police Department as the town marshal.

Robert enjoyed working in the woods, watching movies, and he loved playing with his grandchildren. His motto was ‘God, Family and Law Enforcement.’ As a police officer he was appointed by the governor of Idaho to sit on the Board of Police Officers Standards and Training. He loved his country and wore the American flag proudly on his uniform. At one time he was a logger, miner, and heavy equipment operator. He served as a reservist for the U.S. Army, but law enforcement was his passion. To protect and serve were not mere words, it’s what he lived and worked by.

Robert is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail M. Fitzgerald of Rosalia, Wash.; son, Christopher W. Fitzgerald (Crystal) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; daughters, Bobbie M. Bailey (Josh) of Watford City, N.D. and Stephanie Bess (Shangla) of Bismarck; brother, Scott Fitzgerald of Cataldo, Idaho; sisters, Connie Oyler (Dan) of Rathdrum, Idaho and Carla Hogen (Russ) of Worley, Idaho; grandchildren, Savannah Fitzgerald, Chance Fitzgerald, Gavin Miglio and Rylie Bailey; and great-granddaughter, Hazel Tweedy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fulkerson – Stevenson Funeral Home of Watford City, N.D.
