PREP BASEBALL: Miller hits, pitches Trojans to win

| April 18, 2021 1:16 AM

SANDPOINT — Pitcher Ethan Miller helped himself with a three-run triple in the first inning for the Post Falls Trojans in a 12-1 Inland Empire League win over the Sandpoint Bulldogs at Memorial Field on Saturday.

“Ethan’s hit just kind of set a tone in that first inning,” Post Falls coach Mick Zeller said. “And then he got three outs on seven pitches, and we were off and running. Ethan threw really well and he was able to mix his offspeed stuff. He threw the ball really well today.”

To prepare for the game on the artificial turf in Sandpoint, Post Falls practiced on the turf at The Fields at Real Life on Friday.

“We got an hour over there working on infield stuff,” said Zeller, whose team avenged a 5-4 loss on March 16 at Post Falls. “That last game didn’t sit well with us. Everyone really wanted this one and the kids responded really well.”

Post Falls led 11-0 after two innings.

“You make a mistake and you move on from it,” Sandpoint coach Chase Tigert said. “And it just seemed like we couldn’t move on. To let one inning define your entire game, it’s hard to be successful if you let that happen.”

Post Falls (11-4-1, 9-2 IEL) visits Lakeland for a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.

Sandpoint (9-3, 4-3) hosts Lakeland for a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2 p.m.

Marcus Manzardo had three RBIs in the first game for the Timberwolves, and had two hits in the second.
