NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals sweep Treasure Valley in softball

SOFTBALL

COEUR d’ALENE — Taya Escalante hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Addison Ribordy added a three-run shot in the fourth inning as North Idaho College defeated Treasure Valley 12-4 in the first game of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader at Memorial Field on Saturday.

Grace Shimatsu had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs in the first game for NIC, which finished with 15 hits in the opener.

Bailey Mitchell hit a three-run home run in the third inning for Treasure Valley.

In the nightcap, Kasey Davis went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and two solo home runs as NIC (9-2, 9-0 NWAC) beat Treasure Valley 17-8 to earn the sweep. Grace Shimatsu had two hits and four RBIs in the second game.

Treasure Valley is 2-9, 1-5.

The teams will meet again today starting at noon at Memorial Field.

Hailee Mize had five saves for NIC (1-3, 1-2 NWAC), which hosts Columbia Basin on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Aeryn Elder had 16 saves for Blue Mountain (3-2, 2-2).
