EX-CANDIDATE: Fish deserves support

| April 16, 2021 1:00 AM

Thank you to The Press for the Community Library District Board election article, important to voters and potential candidates. However, some comments were misquoted.

I was fortunate to serve on the Coeur d’Alene Library Board of Directors and as co-chair of the Finance Committee responsible for a $14 million budget. I was not an employee. I also served on the Hayden Canyon Charter School Board of Directors, the Hayden Senior Center Board of Directors, an educator, and mother of two. Thus, my interest in serving on the Library Board. As a Republican, I was also appreciative of the KCRCC possible support of my candidacy.

However, the Committee’s position regarding censorship, and control over candidate’s position were concerning. To clarify, I am not “firmly anti-Democrat.” My comment was intended to be the opposite: The District Board is non-partisan, and the issues of censorship and candidate control are neither Democratic nor Republican. No political party, PAC, organization, or citizen should have undue influence over candidates or officials.

I could not agree with the candidacy requirements of the Committee, and therefore withdrew. I cannot speak to the requirements made of other candidates although Mr. Fish did experience the same issues.

The KCRCC may withdraw support of Mr. Fish; public support must continue. He has been a dedicated public servant for decades. His career in banking, fiscal conservancy, and concern for the greater good are paramount. He has faithfully served the Library District and should be supported in his bid for re-election.
