LEVY: ‘No’ will send message

| April 14, 2021 1:00 AM

The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the School Levy for Post Falls and we see increasing letters promoting this levy that narrowly failed less than two months ago.

A yes vote endorses the management of our schools. We will hear that we do not spend enough on schools. There will be no comment on how our students perform on tests. Bob Shillingstad stated it clearly — spending more on schools does not improve education. The ratio of non-teaching positions to teaching positions at the Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy is far below the public school ratio and their students test far better.

Finally, what is being taught should raise questions. Recently a local middle school had an activity where students wrote letters to the editor of the Coeur d’Alene Press. Letters ranged from support of BLM and “Social Justice,” support for transgenderism and a student in support of the Second Amendment included improved gun control. Only “global warming” was left out.

On the other hand, a NO vote may let our school districts know we do not agree with the teaching curriculum. Perhaps the money problems could be addressed with better management of the schools. Why are there so many school districts requiring redundant non-teaching positions? Consolidating school districts would save thousands of dollars.

A YES vote says we like it how it is and a NO vote says improve our schools FOR OUR KIDS.
